As we start to see the first set of US ratings from the Holiday, 2017 ratings period (Dec. 7, 2017 – Jan. 3, 2018), Nielsen is again reporting huge gains for stations that flipped formats to an all-Christmas one.  Christmas was #1 (6+) in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.  In Dallas and Atlanta, the stations that flipped to all-Christmas landed in second place.

 

 

In a new report being issued by Nielsen, the five-year trend for AC radio stations who flip to an all-Christmas format has been on a dramatic upswing: 12.1 (2013) – 12.7 (2014) – 12.9 (2015) – 12.8 (2016) – 13.9 (2017).

 

This new data also shows that afternoon drive nabbed the greatest increase from the holiday format. In its analysis of AC stations November-December-Holiday survey averages to January-October, afternoon drive shares jumped by nearly one third (32%):
